Artists Attic intention is to be an artists collective providing studio opportunities in the centre of town for artists.  In turn, those artists help make possible the various free workshops that we run  by paying back with their time. 

So while we have lots of contact with various artists who drop in and engage with us from time to time we really need to work on developing a social network where artists can relax and share their thoughts.  So Saturday, 2 August was our first social event and we all know that nothing works better at bringing people together than free food.  

Enter Sensory Bay Caribbean Restaurant who opened just one week earlier and we were their first outside catering customer.  Sensory Bay restaurant is an evening only operation at Sensory World Play Centre, not 100 metres from our door so while we got the benefit of their authentic Afro-Caribbean cuisine we were able to provide some free marketing exposure for a local business. As a review, we would say: highly recommended, and the only Caribbean restaurant between Mirfield and Leeds a positive addition to the Dewsbury evening economy.

Back to the purpose of the evening, we had thirteen local artists, artisans and creatives responding to our invitation and a wide ranging discussion about the future of Dewsbury and how creative activities could fit into the current regeneration effort.  Sorry about the lack of photos but somebody was so overwhelmed by the food that they forgot to take pictures of our guests! 

With the bricks and mortar aspects of investment coming to a conclusion with the Arcade and Market refurbishment attention is now turning to grass roots community activity.  We all need to get our thinking hats on to work out how to deliver the most engaging events that delivery maximum bang for every buck.
