Santa was back at Artists Attic this December 23rd when the Monday Art Club was visited by the man himself bearing gifts for local children.
With the majority of our users being part of the local Romanian community we were also blessed with Romanian Christmas Carols with the choristers keeping traditions alive in national dress. Santa is known as Moș Crăciun in Romanian but the word Crăciun was considered too religious, and therefore instead of Moș Crăciun, a new character was introduced in the 1950s: Moș Gerilă. Children are told that it is Moș Gerilă who brings gifts each December 25.
Amazing what you can learn in down town Dewsbury!
With the help of a local philanthropist Santa was able to distribute more than 50 parcels of presents to local children.
Monday Art Club is back on track each Monday eventing 6-8pm with creative activities for young people. Although originally funded by Awards for All our local artists are keeping it going on a voluntary basis while we await the result of further funding. So it remains free for all comers.
